Cold Applied Splices for 15kV and 25/28kV cables
Tyco Electronics’ new Raychem CAS
Cold Applied Splice is designed to splice
15kV and 25/28kV tape shield, LC, flat
strap, lead, wire shield, UniShield, con-
centric neutral (CN), and jacketed con-
centric neutral (JCN) cables.
CAS splices consist of a pre-stretched
splice body on a unique two piece tubular
holdout system, a pre-engineered stress
control system, sealing mastic strips, sol-
derless re-shielding system, and a
GelWrap re-jacketing sleeve coated with
gel for moisture and environmental seal-
ing and mechanical protection.
After installation of the connector and
stress relief patches, the splice body is
positioned over the splice area and
installed by quick and easy removal of
the plastic holdout. The shielding mesh
and spring clamps are then installed if
the cable shielding is copper tape, LC, flat
strap, lead, wire, or UniShield cable. For
CN or JCN cables, the kit contains
shielding wires. Once the reshielding is
complete, the last step is to install the
GelWrap rejacketing wraparound sleeve
to provide mechanical, moisture, and
environmental protection.
The Raychem CAS splice kit accommo-
dates a wide range of conductor sizes,
from #2 to 750kcmil.
Connectors are not included.
