KEYBOARD TECHNOLOGY
The most important properties of a computer
keyboard are the actuation force and actuation
path – the haptics. CHERRY has proved itself
over many years as the European market leader
in the field of business and professional keyboards,
due to its optimum key haptics, secure contacts
and high-quality keyboards.
IN PRINCIPLE, THERE ARE THREE
FUNDAMENTAL TECHNOLOGIES
BEHIND CHERRY KEYBOARDS
→ Keyboards with mechanical individual
modules on a circuit board (MX and ML)
→ Keyboards with mechanical individual keys
on contact membranes (FTSC)
→ Keyboards with an elastomer dome on a
contact membrane (NTK, ATK, LPK, SX)
All of these technologies – regardless of whether
mechanical or elastomer keys are in use – are
characterized by long or extremely long service
lives and guarantee reliable functionality,
even in tough operating conditions. All of our
CHERRY keyboards retain their key labelling,
which is rich in contrast and non-wearing during
their service lives.
MX technology
1. TECHNOLOGY WITH
MECHANICAL INDIVIDUAL KEYS
This category includes MX and ML.
In MX/ML technology, the key caps are mounted
on individual modules that are located on a circuit
board. They behave like small switches that close a
contact on actuation. This contact is then processed
byevaluationelectronics.Withbothtechnologies,
we use our special Gold Crosspoint contacts for
high switching security and long service life.
ML technology
The keys enable the installation of decoupling diodes
which facilitate particularly quick key recognition
times. The construction of these key modules gives
the user a precise feel, with MX available in three
types – linear, soft or “click”; with ML we offer a
soft pressure point.
FTSC technology
2. KEYBOARDS WITH
MECHANICAL INDIVIDUAL KEYS
ON CONTACT MEMBRANES
FTSC technology involves individual modules that
are attached to a sturdy metal panel via a contact
membrane film. The switch function is not made in
the module itself, but in the membrane film. This
technology ensures an extremely long service life.
NTK technology
3. KEYBOARDS WITH
ELASTOMER DOME
ON A CONTACT MEMBRANE
The key caps are integrated directly in the upper
casing part (except for SX). Every time a key is
pressed, the key meets a malleable elastomer dome.
This creates the feeling of actuation and switches
the contact membrane located below.
The key-press feeling is largely influenced by
the properties of the rubber mat and the length of
the key guide in the housing. The various models
with this technology differ in terms of the possible
height of the keys.
The flattest keyboards are produced using the
SX series keys, made possible with the addition of
a scissor mechanism under each key. This gives
the lowest possible key height and also produces
soft, whisper keystrokes with its special key guides.
