4. Functional Description
The Si3016 is an integrated direct access arrangement
(DAA) that provides a programmable line interface to
meet global telephone line interface requirements. The
device implements Silicon Laboratories’ proprietary
capacitive isolation technology which offers the highest
level of integration by replacing an analog front end
(AFE), an isolation transformer, relays, opto-isolators,
and a 2- to 4-wire hybrid with a 16-pin small outline
integrated circuit (SOIC) package in conjunction with a
system-side module that is integrated into another
device.
The Si3016 chip can be fully programmed to meet
international requirements and is compliant with FCC,
CTR21, JATE, and various other country-specific PTT
specifications as shown in Table 9. In addition, the
Si3016 has been designed to meet the most stringent
global requirements for out-of-band energy, emissions,
immunity, lightning surges, and safety.
The Si3016 is intended for single-channel applications.
For multi-channel applications, up to eight Si3044 DAAs
can be daisy-chained together on one serial port.
