2. IC Internal Features and Usage Notes
Notes on the Switching Regulator
To reduce power consumption, the LA4901 includes a signal-following self-excitation switching regulator. The
self-excitation frequency is about 200kHz when there is no input signal.
To avoid spurious emissions within the end product, an amplifier block layout such that the tuner block is
separated as far as possible is desirable. Also, when designing the printed circuit board pattern layout, the lines
for the switching regulator components should be made as wide as possible.
To prevent degradation of the characteristics of the LA4901 itself, a separation of at least 1.5cm must be
provided between the switching regulator components and the IC input block (the input block pattern, the input
capacitors, and the beep tone circuit capacitor).
Notes on the Standby Function
Pins 2 and 4 are the standby pins, and the amplifier is
turned on by applying a level of 3V or higher through
external resistors (resistors R5 and R6).
If s voltage that exceeds 14V will be applied as the standby
switch applied voltage, determine the values of R5 and R6
according to the following formula so that the sink current
entering at pins 2 and 4 remains under 500
μA.
R5, R6 = (applied voltage – 1.4V)/500
μA -10kΩ
Notes on the BEEP Pin (pin 12)
If the BEEP pin is used, use a resistor with a value that is
under 100
Ω and is furthermore as small as possible for
resistor R102 in the figure to prevent degradation of the
IC's output noise voltage (VNO) characteristics.
Notes on Protection Circuits
The LA4901 features a built-in protection circuit that
prevents destruction or degradation of the IC if it
generates abnormal temperatures. If the IC junction
temperature (Tj) exceeds 160°C due to insufficient heat
sink capacity or other reason, the thermal protection
circuit will operate and apply control that gradually lowers
the output level.
The overvoltage protection circuit operates if VCC
exceeds a level of about 26V.
Other Notes
Pins 5, 6, 8, and 10 are NC pins that have no internal
connections to the IC.
