Optical Transceiver
The MCP2150 requires an infrared transceiver. The
transceiver can be an integrated solution. Table 2-6
shows a list of common manufacturers of integrated
optical transceivers. A typical optical transceiver cir-
cuit, using a Vishay/Temic TFDS4500, is shown in
FIGURE 2-12:

CIRCUIT
The optical transceiver logic can be implemented with
discrete components for cost savings. Care must be
taken in the design and layout of the photo detect cir-
cuit, due to the small signals that are being detected
and their sensitivity to noise. A discrete implementation
of the optical transceiver logic is implemented on the
MCP2120 and MCP2150 Developer’s Kit boards.
