7. Notes on PCB pattern design
(1) Ideally, there should be separate VDD and ground lines for each system to reduce the influence of shared
impedances.
(2) The VDD and ground lines should be as wide and as short as possible, and the impedance to high frequencies should
be as small as possible. Ideally, decoupling capacitors should be inserted between each VDD/ground pair, and these
capacitors should be located as close to the IC as possible.
It is appropriate to insert capacitors of about 100 to 220 F between each VDD/ground pair as low-frequency filters.
However, if these capacitors are too large, latchup may occur.
*: In the servo systems, the same care is required for the VREF reference voltage line as well as for the driver VCC
and ground lines. The driver ground lines should be especially wide and located under the device to provide a
heat dissipating effect.
*: If a current output type pickup is used, it must be located as close as possible to the photoreceptor connector and
the AIN, BIN, CIN, and DIN pins. If a voltage output type pickup is used, the I/V conversion resistors connected
to the AIN, BIN, CIN, and DIN pins must be located as close as possible to those pins.
(3) The EFM signal line must be made as short as possible, and must either be located well away from adjacent lines or
must be run between VSS or VDD as shield lines.
(4) If noise occurs in the microcontroller interface, this IC may malfunction. In general, the interface lines should be as
short as possible and their capacitance and inductance should be as low as possible. However, crosstalk also
requires care. If longer interface lines are required and external noise is a problem, it can be effective to insert noise
reduction circuits. Use filters that are appropriate for the interface timing.
(5) The crystal oscillator circuit must be surrounded by the ground pattern.
8. Notes on software design
(1) Follow the recommendations on software design stipulated in the technical documentation for the device.
(2) If the digital output is used, DIR unlock states and incorrect subcode identification can be prevented by setting
UBIT to the off state during initialization. UBIT should only be set to the on state during playback.
9. Other notes

This IC is a special-purpose device designed for CD player applications, and has specifications that differ from those
of general-purpose logic devices. End products must be designed to operate in a failsafe manner appropriate for the
application, and application operation must be verified using test equipment.
