4. POWER SAVING MODES
Four different power modes (active, idle, standby, and sleep) are defined in the ATA specifications.
However, this card supports three modes (active, idle, and sleep).
The idle and standby modes are defined as the same modes.
Each mode is described below.
4.1 Active Mode
The active mode is the mode in which commands are executed. This mode has the largest power
consumption.
4.2 Idle/Standby Mode
The idle/standby mode is the mode in which host interface is active. When a command is
received, the active mode is transferred to immediately and the received command is executed.
After the command is executed, the idle/standby mode (the mode prior to receiving the
command) is automatically returned to.
4.3 Sleep Mode
Of the three power modes, the sleep mode has the lowest power consumption. It is not necessary
to reset the drive (hardware and software reset) to change the card from this mode to the active
mode. Upon receiving a command from the host, the active mode will be transferred to and the
command executed. However, there is a required set up time, from when the command is
received until it is executed.
