Functional description
The Tsi206 is a primary side monitoring device
which supports the PI-Link isolated communication
interface to a secondary side power management
controller. It controls card inrush current using an
external MOSFET and current sense resistor. It
also provides control for an intermediate bus power
converter.

Note: The term inrush current refers to the
momentary surge current that occurs when the
input voltage is first applied to a card. This current
is required to charge the input capacitors on the
inrush limiting is not provided, the inrush current
can be very high and can cause damage or
malfunction.

This pin is the output of the internal current sense amplifier.

SHUNT
This pin connects to the drain of an internal shunt transistor. It normally connects to pin
25 as internal shunt regulator for VDD.

VSS
This pin connects to -48 V (ground reference for the Tsi206)

VDD
3.3 V power — normally connects to pin 14
(Tsi206 uses internal shunt regulator and external resistor from 48 V input)

CT
This pin connects to a capacitor that provides a time-out for the inrush and circuit
breaker functions; it is used to detect a fault condition.

POR
This pin connects to an external capacitor for power-on reset — recommended value
is 47 nF.

BUSOFF
This pin connects to an external optocoupler to receive a shutdown signal from the
Tsi257. A logic high on the BUSOFF pin disables the intermediate bus brick.

SEAT
This pin can be connected as either a high or a low SEAT pin. External resistors must
be used if required to ensure voltage remains below 3.3 V.
The Tsi206 must detect a valid seat input before it can generate the brick enable signal.

FETA
This pin is used to monitor VGS of the external inrush FET to detect when inrush is
complete.

BIAS
recommended bias resistor.

VBG
This pin is the 1.2 V bandgap reference output, and is normally left open.
