Stacking
The ZL50418 supports expanded port count by providing stacking capabilities. The Gigabit port is used as the link
between boxes.
In addition to a standard back-to-back configuration of devices, the ZL50418 also provides more powerful stacking
alternatives:
Unidirectional ring configuration. Up to 32 devices. Devices are connected by one Gigabit link. Flow control
cannot be enabled in this configuration, because of the inherent inefficiency in sending flow control
messages upstream in a unidirectional ring.
Bidirectional ring configuration. Up to 32 devices. Devices are connected by two Gigabit links, forming two
rings, one clockwise and one counter clockwise. Flow control may be enabled in this configuration. The
outgoing direction of a packet (clockwise or counter clockwise) is selected using a hash key for load
distribution. The hash key can be a function of source MAC address, destination MAC address, both MAC
addresses, or source port. This configuration provides fault-tolerance when one of the stacking links fail.
Cascade Stacking configuration. Up to 32 devices. Devices are connected to form a list configuration.
Devices are connected by two Gigabit links, except the two devices at both ends, where one Gigabit port is
used as an uplink port. Flow control may be enabled in this configuration.
