Phase Build-out Operation
General:Themodule,whenlockedtoareferencemaintainsafixedphaserelationshipbetweenitsinputandoutputsignals.Thephase
detectorusedinthePLLdeterminesthisrelationship.Typically,thePLLwouldrecognizeaphasechangeintheinputreferenceand
adjusttheoscillatorcontroltomaintainthesameinputoutputrelationship.ThePLLcanbeprogrammedtoignoretheinputphase
changeandtherebycreateanewphaserelationshipbetweentheinputandtheoutputsignals.Thisisparticularlyusefulinsome
applicationswhereitisnotdesirabletopassphasehitsontheinputsthroughtotheoutputs.Thisprocessoflimitingorabsorbinga
phasehitisknownas“PhaseBuildOut”.
Requirements:Amodulethatsupportsphasebuild-outshouldmeetthefollowingrequirementsspecifiedinGR-1244,section5-7.
R5-15“Inputphase-timechangesof3.5usorgreateroveranintervaloflessthan0.1secondsorlessshallbebuilt-outbystratum2
and3Eclockstoreducetheresultingclockphase-timechangetolessthan50ns.
Phase-timechangesof1.0usorlessoveranintervalof0.1secondsshallnotbebuilt-out.”

ModuleSetup:Themodule,bydefault,doesnothavephasebuild-outenabled.Itcanbeenabledbysettingthe“PHASEBUILD-OUT
OPTION”bit,whichisbit4ofBANDWIDTH_PBOregister(0x03).
Note:Phasebuild-outisnotthesameas“HitlessReferenceSwitching”eventhoughtheyaresimilarinimplementation.Whilephase
build-outisimplementedinstratum3Etimingmodulesandhigher,hitlessreferenceswitchingcanbeimplementedinanystratumlevel
timingmodulethatacceptstwoormorereferenceinputs.Also,phasebuild-outcanbeusedonlytobuild-outphasehitsthatexceed1
us,hitlessreferenceswitchinghasnosuchlimits.
