10 Controller Sample Rate Conversion
The Controller supports simultaneous sample rate conversion (SRC) of up to fifteen audio and modem sample data streams.
There are 5 stereo interpolators, 7 mono interpolators, 4 mono decimators, and 1 stereo decimator.
The interpolation (up sampling) channels can accept samples at any rate from 1 kHz to 48 kHz and produce samples at 48
kHz. For applications such as asynchronous input tracking (e.g., I
2S), the sample rate may be slightly higher than 48 kHz, and
not to exceed approximately 50KHz input rates.
The decimation (down sampling) channels can accept data at 48 kHz and can produce data at rates from 48 kHz to 8 kHz.
The decimation channels always accept data at 48KHz and cannot accept data at rates above 48KHz. They can produce
data at rates from 8KHz to 48KHz. Three of the mono decimators have been constructed to produce only 16KHz output
samples which are used for Modem Sample data.
For example, sample rate conversion of the following may occur at the same time:
Stereo interpolation
PCM playback
WaveStream/Mega WaveStream output
I
2S
DirectSound 3.0 (or 5.0) primary buffers out/Sound Blaster WAVE support
DirectSound 3.0 (or 5.0) secondary buffers
