11 Controller Mixer Operation
The Controller audio mixer operates at 48 kHz. It accepts up to twelve input streams and produces one output stream. The
format of each input stream is automatically configured for stereo or mono. The output stream is 18-bit stereo. The mixer
sums the input streams with 36 bits of resolution.
Mono formatted audio is routed by the mixer into both left and right channels thus allowing panning. Stereo formatted audio
supports left and right cross mixing.
11.1
Gain Functions
The mixer implements five individual gain functions. Each function accepts one input stream and produces one output stream.
The sample rate of these gain functions is not fixed. The input and output stream for each function may be configured for
Stereo vs. Mono.
12 GPIO Description
The Controller supports GPIO functionality through Controller and Codec GPIO pins. The host processor may access GPIO
functions through either the Modem DMA/Interface Controller (MDIC) or through the Audio Function (Function 0). The
Controller provides register and interrupt resources to the on-chip processor which allow it to manage GPIO activity, as well.
The host processor may manipulate the GPIO’s states, read their values and optionally be interrupted by occurrence of
specific events which change a GPIO’s state.
12.1
Controller GPIO Pins
The Controller implements 8 GPIO and 5 GPI pins. These pins are defined in the Pin Description section. The Controller
GPIO pins can be controlled and read by the Controller on-chip processor. The on-chip processor can also be interrupted on
a change of state of any of the Controller’s GPIO pins.
12.1.1
Ring Detect Hardware Support
The Controller GPI0 and GPI1 pins are programmed to support IRING# and RINGWAKE# inputs signals, respectively,
detected from the telephone line. IRING# (Ring Indicate) is a low-going edge used to indicate presence of a ring frequency.
RINGWAKE# (Ring Wakeup) is an active low input used to indicate that a valid ring signal (filtered from the ring frequency)
has been detected. This is used for Caller ID. When RINGWAKE# is asserted, the PME# output is asserted.
The Controller can also send an interrupt to the Host when either of these inputs is asserted. This is handled by the Modem
Function (Function 1). A PME (Power Management Event) will occur based on the signals received from the DAA circuitry.
In simple terms, GPI0 and GPI1 can also support direct assertion of PME# without the intervention of the Controller on-chip
processor.
12.2
Codec GPIO Pins
The Controller implements an AMC’97 compatible AC-Link interface. The attached codec may implement up to 16 GPIO pins.
These Codec GPIO pins can be controlled and read by the Controller on-chip processor through the AC-link interface. The
on-chip processor can also be interrupted on a change of state of any of the Codec’s GPIO pins.
