2.3.2.3 Payload Posting
After the data in the PID Post-processing block is processed, the data
posted to the next unit (MMU) contains raw data without the transport
header or adaptation eld. In special cases, additional message bytes
are attached to the bit stream; some of these are for internal use only,
and some are for assisting the user in processing the data. The following
subsections discuss the structure of the posted data according to type.
Audio and Video PES Payload – Payload from the audio or video PES
type is carried by PID Index 30 or PID Index 31. The PID processor
appends two message bytes to the front of each payload packet data.
The data in this structure is posted to its destination, which is either
transport buffers or an external DRAM device. The rst byte carries the
payload length (in bytes), as shown in Figure 2.16. The second byte car-
ries the PID Index (bits 5:0) and an Error Indicator (bit 7). The PPU and
the Output Control Unit use these bytes for error handling.
